Submitted by Judy McGee

The oldest monument at the Farm Hill Cemetery is that of Selay Hamrick, mother of Delilah Mardis, who died Feb. 3, 1846. Delilah Mardis was the wife of Dr. J.P. Mardis (Chart) who came from Alabama in 1840 and settled in the Farm Hill Community. He built a log house for church and school a little west of the present Farm Hill Church building. It was after his death that Delilah and her son Berry R.J. Mardis gave the land for the Church and cemetery. According to the deed on May 16, 1873 Berry R.J. Mardis and his mother Delilah Mardis deeded 3 acres of land to John W. Killough, Joseph Taylor, J.P. Phillips, C.L. Freeman, and A.T. Hollyman, Trustees of the Methodist Episcopal Church South for church or school purposes as well as a cemetery. On this same date, May 16, 1873, Nathaniel S. Duke and his mother, Mary Ann Cash deeded 5 acres to the church. The Farm Hill Church and cemetery contain a total of 8 acres.
