John M. Harris (a widower) on September 2, 1905 deeded 2 1/2 acres for $1.00 to the Trustees of Bethel Baptist Church for a neighborhood burying ground.
John M. Harris was the son of William Henry Harris and Jane Posey Copeland Harris. He was the grandson of William H. Harris, first Judge of Poinsett County and Susanna Roberts Harris who began the Harris settlement 1 mile south of Harrisburg.
The oldest monument at the cemetery is that of Jesse D. Harris who died in 1883.
DIRECTIONS. At the intersection of Highways 1 and 14 , take Highway 1 south for 2.1 miles. Turn east at the Bethel Church sign and go .1 mile. Turn south on Old Military Lane for about 100 yards and turn east on Vinson Road which is across from Bethel Baptist Church and go .5 mile. Turn south after stone house on the right and continue up the hill to the cemetery.
