Mr. Couch, I am on the Craighead mailing list and
received your message concerning the Martin Cemetery.
I don't have any information about that cemetery, but
I do have information about the Mangrum Cemetery. I
will send this to you. I hope you can add this to the
list or forward it on to the right person for me.
My Greatgrandparents were Charles Augusta Lentz and
Martha May Abbott Lentz.
Each of the following are buried at the Mangrum
Cemetery. Only two of the graves are marked. I believe
only Mary's and Jose's graves are marked.
Charles Augusta Lentz b. 8 Jan 1859 d. 11 Nov 1900
Charles Edward Lentz b. 14 Apr 1883 d. 03 Feb 1903
James Irvin Lentz b. 07 Aug 1884 d. 23 Jan 1903
Mary Leeama Lentz b. 28 Jan 1888 d. 27 Jan 1895
Martha May Lentz b. 04 Mar 1890 d. 05 Dec 1898
Jose Elen Lentz b. 30 Jun 1894 d. 23 Jun 1896
I have a letter to my grandfather from Tom Buffalo
dated July 1965..and some photos of the cemetery. Mr.
Buffalo says, "I forgot to tell you that the old cedar
stump upon which my stick rests, is about 2 ft. in
diameter. It was cut because it died. These metal
markers are stuck through the center of 8 inch cube
concrete blocks which I made and painted white.
Felbert Thomas hauled and helped me set them. You know
the one to my far right is at your father's grave."
He had placed simple markers at each of the graves
except for the two that were already marked.
Also, back in June of 1978, I talked to Mrs. Maude
Wilson. She said, "Aunt Martha's family died one after
another and they were buried in a row by the church
house. She took good care of the graves and planted
cedar trees around them. They were later cut because
honeysuckle grew around them and they couldn't mow the
grass."
I've never tried to document an unmarked grave before!
Let me know if this information is useful.
