The 4th Regt was organized and mustered into Confederate Service at Miller's Springs, Lawrence Co, MO, on 17 Aug 1861. Reorganized at
Corinth, MS 8 May 1862. Consolidated with the 1st and 2d Mtd Rifles, 4th Inf Bn, and 9th and 25th Inf Regts and designated as the 1st Mtd
Rifles Consolidated at Smithfield, NC on 9 Apr 1865.

First Commander was: Evander McNair, Col.

Battle credits are: Pea Ridge, AR; Corinth, MS Campaign; Richmond, KY; Perryville, KY; Murfreesboro, TN; Jackson, MS Siege; Chickamauga, GA; Chattanooga, TN Siege; Atlanta, GA Campaign; Dug Gap; Resaca; New Hope Church; Kennesaw Mountain; Moore's Hill; Peach Tree Creek, Atlanta; Lovejoy's Station; Moon's Station; Franklin; Nashville; Sugar Creek; Carolinas Campaign; Averasboro, Bentonville.

BUNN, HENRY G. Col. - Enl 17 Aug 1861 at Mt Vernon, MO in Co A. Appointed 22 Nov 1862. Commanding the rregiment. Suceeded LTC Ogden. McNair promoted to Brig Gen 4 Nov 1862. Bunn Wounded 28 Jul 1864.

CAMERON, A.S. Asst Surgeon - Captured 1 Dec 1864 at Franklin, TN and sent to MP at Camp Chase, OH then to Ft Delaware, DE 9 Jun 1865 and exchanged.

FERGUSON, J.R. QM Sgt - Enl 17 Dec 1862 in Washington Co, AR. Issued clothing 30 Sep 1864.

PRINCE, WILLIAM Fife Major - Enl 17 Aug 1861 at Mt Vernon, MO. Sick in hospital Jun 1863.

RENFRO, GEORGE Ord Sgt - Enl 17 Aug 1861 at Mt Vernon, MO Present through Feb 1864. Issued clothing 30 Sep 1864.

ROSS, FOUNTAIN P. Pvt - Enl 21 Oct 1861 at Ft Smith, AR. Detailed as regimental Hospital Steward. Captured 21 Dec 1864 at Columbia, TN and sent to MP at Ft Delaware, DE 22  Jan 1865 then to Camp Hamilton, VA 9 Feb 1865 and forwarded for exchanged 11 Feb 1865.

SMITH, WILLIAM C. Acting Surgeon. - Appointed in place of W.L. Gammage, dismissed, and case under investigation. Paroled 15 May 1865 at Marion, AL.
