GIPSON'S BATTALION MOUNTED RIFLES

These records came almost entirely from records of receipts for forage. There were three enlisted men's records from other sources.

Organized with 9 Companies near the start of the war. Not listed in Official Records. At least 2 companies later assigned to (Carroll's-Thompson's) Cavalry Regiment. Known as Gipson's Cavalry Regiment Mounted Rifles. William Gipson was the major. He is also listed as a Major in the 2nd Cavalry Regiment Mounted Rifles.
