My Dear Wife and children these few Lines
Leaves us Both well and we hope that these
few Lines may find you all well
We thank god for his Mercies to wards us in all
we had the big fight Saturday the fight
commenced at about half after 6am and lasted till
a bout 12 O clock we lost A bout 500 Men and the
North lost A bout 5000 Men and we got 4000 soldiers
arms and 18 canons and we whip them at everry
point and we kild Old General Lyons and we run the
balance to Springfield and they have all left thare
and gone give My best regard to all of My friends
Tell Julia god bless her and all the rest you Must excuse
My Short Letter James & Chaney is a waiting on me
I Must close My few lines but Still remain your
Loving husband and Son Till death doth us part
