8th Arkansas Infantry Battalion, CSA

   Company B—“Chicot Rebels”

The information on these  pages was edited and graciously  given to the Edward G. Gerdes Arkansas Civil War page by Bryan R. Howerton, who we thank so much.    He can be reached and thanked at this email address!  "Bryan R. Howerton"

This company was organized on February 26, 1862, at Eudora, Chicot county, Arkansas, but was still recruiting members at Eudora as late as March 5, 1862.  The company enlisted in the Confederate service on March 27, 1862.  It was assigned to the 8th Arkansas Infantry Battalion as Company B on April 9.  The captain of the company was James D. Imboden.  Private Batt L. Jones, a member of the Chicot Rebels, was appointed lieutenant-colonel of the battalion.

About the roster of Company B:  As with all the companies of the 8th Arkansas Battalion, the official records of this company are incomplete.  About 48 men can be positively identified as being members of this company.  Most of them were from Chicot county, and it is believed that a few men from neighboring Carroll parish, Louisiana, enlisted in the Chicot Rebels.  There may be as many as 30-40 more members of this company who cannot now be identified.
