Sept 1st this company was in the battle at the backbone changed to Waldron, Scott (sic) Co to which place Hill's Regt was ordered north to Madison Co to collect absentees. Before returning the federals got control of the river then Col Brooks appeared in our midst. This company reported to him for the present then made a raid in Washington and Benton Counties then to Missouri after _____ marches returned to Huntsville, Madison Co at which the federals came in force when we fell back to Shelby and came across the river with him and reinforced our command in Hempstead Co on the 5th day of Nov 1863.
