4th Infantry,Co.E, entered as a private, was promoted to a  Corporal - and was "Killed In Action" on July 11, 1863 in "The Jackson  Campaign" in the city of Jackson, MS.  This information was provided by The United States Department Of The  Interior, and they mailed a copy of the report ( Report # 75) by his  commanding officer, Col. H.G. Bunn to Capt. R.E. Foote, Asst.  Adjutant-General, McNair's Brigade. This record is is available in The  War Of The Rebellion: A Compilation Of The Official Records of the Union  And Confederate Armies - Prepared, under the direction of the Secretary  of War, Published Pursuant to Acts of Congress. Series I-Vol. XXIV - In  Three Parts - Part II - Reports  Washington: Goverment Printing Office.  John's rank and "Killed in Action" and date of death are also recorded  on Muster Rolls in the national archives.  George W.
