  1ST ARKANSAS CAVALRY REGIMENT, UNION

HISTORY AND ENGAGEMENTS

 The nucleus for this regiment was formed by part of Co A which was originally intended for the 6th MO Cav. Vols. And was raised under an order from Col Clark Wright of that regiment, withthe approval of Maj Gen Curtis. Permission for raising the 1st Ark Cav  was given in a telegram dictated by the secretary of war dated 31 May 1862. The men already raised, not having been mustered in, were immediately placed in this regiment. They were on duty at Cassville, MO from the date of their enrollment until Jun 28th when they were ordered to the general rendezvous at Springfield, MO.  The written order from the Adjutant General was received about the 8th of July. Three companies were mustered in July 3rd, a fourth July 10th, a fifth, July 31st, a sixth Aug 6th, and a seventh and eighth on Aug 7th. The ninth company was mustered Aug 11th, the tenth Sep 10th, the eleventh Sep 22nd, and the twelfth on Oct 22, 1862.
