Notes for Edna "E.O." Oscar Rosebrough:
1. Oscar (he never used his first name,
Edna) and Roxie eloped because Roxie's parents were planning to send her
off to "Normal" school (a term used to describe formal schooling).
Edna was operating his father's cotton gin at the time. In 1908 he
saved the life of his brother, Hascal, when Hascal was caught in the gin
machinery.
2. Oscar was on the local school board,
taught singing, a very devout Christian and owned a farm in Brockwell,
Izard County, Arkansas from 1919 to 1926.
3. Oscar and Roxie moved to Richmond,
California in 1943 where he worked in a shipyard in Turlock, California
during W.W.II and later with a railroad company. They moved to Fresno,
California in 1946.
4. Burial services for Oscar were at
the Free Will Baptist Church with Rev. Doice McAlister officiating.
Vocalist was B. W. Hutchinson, pianist was Donna Walker. Bearers
were Rusty Jenkins, Amos Smith, Loyd Brown, Earnest Bishop, Bill Grimes
and John Brown.
