I'm researching Sarah and Rucker TANNER. I was given Hempstead Co.'s name where Rucker's last will was produced in open court by Sarah TANNER in April 1830. I am descended from Jess Tanner, whom I believe is the grandson of Rucker and Sarah Tanner. Jess's parents were Rucker and Martha (Anderson) Tanner - they were born in AR but moved to TX. Sarah moved on to VanZandt Co. TX in 1850 with her sons: Rucker, Jessy and Silas (according to the census there). Can you advise me as to where the best place to start is? If Rucker Tanner died in 1830, prehaps the 1820 census would show him and his family? Would I be able to find his will in Hempstead Co.? Thank you for any help, info, or advice. Leslie (in Oregon)

(I can't find a marriage record but this is what is stated in her bible) Three children were born of the marriage. Mildred, my maternal grandmother born in December 1913, Margaret and Jim. This marriage ended by 1921. Vernie went to Houston, TX and my grandmother never saw her father again. I believe he left them. What I know: Vernie was born in 1895 so Clarence was probably born about that time too. I have a couple of old photos, one is of a middle aged couple standing together and on the back it says "Mr. and Mrs J.W. GRIFFIN Hope, Arkansas 1920" and in my grandmothers handwritting below that it states "fathers parents". In our bible she has scratched out the word born and replaced it with from Vallonia, Indiana for Clarence. She states in a letter that he was a telegraph operator. Finally, There is a photograph of a woman holding a baby and on the back is printed "Vearl 1st cousin father side" in my grandmothers hand writting. I would very much like to have any information on this family. When and/or where was Clarence born. Where did he go? Why did he go?
