Amelia Thompson ROBERTS was in Wynne, AR during Mar 1909 when her father and her 2-3 yr old daughter, Gladys ROBERTS died. These deaths brought on the premature labor and birth of my grandmother, Jimmie Pauline ROBERTS. My grandfather tells me that Gladys ROBERTS died in Wynne, AR and Jimmie Pauline ROBERTS was born in Wynne, AR, yet I can find no records of either event. I am searching for the descendants of Theophilus DEARING, b: 1830 in GA, d: unk. Theophilus married Sara RAINS, b: in NC, d: unk. Theophilus moved to Cross Co, AR and purchased land there. It is believed that Theophilus took a second wife, Martha Susan (?), who according to family tradition, was a Cherokee Indian. The 1870 Census lists Martha Susan DEARING as the head of household in Cross Co, AR. It is possible that Martha Susan later married Mr. CAIN. I am also searching the parents and siblings of Martha Susan (?). Part of the Trail Of Tears passed through Arkansas at the time Martha Susan (?) was born. Were there many Indian families in the area during this time? Were there any orphaned Indian children raised by whites? any help will be greatly appreciated.

I am researching the surname ELLIS. My ancestors lived in Mitchell Township near Cherry Valley in what was St. Francis Co prior to 1862 when Cross Co, was incorporated. I am descended from William b: in NC 1797, and Elizabeth (ALLIN) ELLIS b: in NC 1803. They moved to St. Francis Co, Ar in the early 1850's. They had ten children; John, Thomas, Robert, Nancy, Lucy, George, William, James, Yancy, and ?. One of William's sons, Robert J. ELLIS served in the 13th Arkansas Infantry during the Civil War. Robert James ELLIS married my great-great-grandmother, Mattie ROBINSON. They had no children together. Mattie's daughter by a previous marriage, Martha Robinson, married one of Robert J ELLIS' nephews, James Alexander ELLIS. James Alexander ELLIS and Martha (ROBINSON) ELLIS are my great-grandpparents. MATTHEWSON - My grandparents were Kerney and Virginia (Britton) Matthewson. They had 5 children - one of them was my mother, Gracie Marie Matthewson. I am looking for information on my grandparents and/or great-grandparents - marriage/death information. The family lived just north of Wynne until 1945 (my mother was 8) when they moved to Sand Springs, Oklahoma. They lived by a river or creek that flooded quite often.
