The Known Descendants of
James Lee Tate

I do not descend from the TATE marriage between James Lee Tate of that of my Great Grandmother, Madore E. Page Brown, but from her first husband, Parmer Sanford Brown. This is information is posted so that Tate family members might benefit and add to this genealogy for Carolyn Tate Propst, Tom Hibbard, and Larry Tate. First Generation

1.  James Lee TATE was born on 11 Jun 1836 in SC, died on 28 Feb 1921
    in Wagoner, OK and was buried in Wagoner, OK.

    A horn that belong to James Lee Tate was given to Joseph A. Brown.
    It was a hunting horn and, according to Tate family members, is
    around 110 years old [1979].  The horn is now in my possession,
    being handed down to me by my father, Virgil A. Brown, son of Joseph
    Brown.  James married Marthey GINNINGS on 7 Dec 1854.  (Marthey
    GINNINGS was born on 27 Sep 1832.)

     They had the following children:

       2 M     i. James E. TATE was born on 16 May 1855.
       3 M    ii. Robert A. TATE was born on 16 May 1857 and died on 28
                  Jul 1858.
     + 4 M   iii. William A. TATE was born on 8 Apr 1861, died on 28 Jun
                  1939 in Portia, Lawrence, AR and was buried in Portia
                  Cemetery, Lawrence, AR
       5 M    iv. Thomas D. TATE was born on 18 Feb 1865.
     + 6 M     v. John M. TATE was born on 29 Jan 1867
     + 7 M    vi. Henry Giffin "Giff" TATE was born on 17 Jul 1869, died
                  about 1955 in Lawrence Co, AR and was buried in
                  Lawrence Mem Cem, Lawrence, AR
     + 8 M   vii. Lee Washington TATE was born on 12 Jun 1871 and died
                  on 8 Jun 1942
       9 M  viii. Mary E. TATE was born on 16 Mar 1889 and died
                  on 12 Mar 188.

     James also married Mrs. Madora Emily PAGE BROWN on 2 Mar 1899 in
     Lawrence Co, AR.  (Mrs. Madora Emily BROWN was born on 6 Jun 1857
     in Clinton Co, MI, died in Feb 1928 in Old Walnut Ridge, Lawrence,
     AR and was buried in Kelley Cem, Lawrence, AR.)

     Madora Emily PAGE married Parmer Sanford Brown in Clinton Co,
     Michigan.  He moved them to Lawrence County, Arkansas in the fall
     of 1894 from Headlee, White County, Indiana.   He returned to sell
     the farm the next summer, took ill and died there on Sept. 21,
     1895 after he had sold the farm.

Second Generation (Children)

4.  William A. TATE was born on 8 Apr 1861, died on 28 Jun 1939 in
    Portia, Lawrence, AR and was buried in Portia Cemetery,
    Lawrence, AR.  William married Francis C. EAST on 22 Apr 1894 in
    Lawrence Co, AR.  (Francis C. EAST was born in 1872.)

6.  John M. TATE was born on 29 Jan 1867.  John married Lavenia FRANKS.
    (Lavenia FRANKS was born in 1865.)

7.  Henry Giffin "Giff" TATE was born on 17 Jul 1869, died about 1955
    in Lawrence Co, AR and was buried in Lawrence Mem Cem, Lawrence, AR.
    Henry married Josaphine TILLEY.  (Josaphine TILLEY was buried in
    Newark, AR.)

    They had the following children:

    + 10 F     i. Lillie Lee TATE
    + 11 M    ii. Jess TATE
    + 12 M   iii. William Wayne TATE
    + 13 F    iv. Minnie TATE was born about 1895
      14 M     v. Charles Elwood TATE was buried in Lawrence Memorial
                  Cem, Lawrence, AR.  Died young.

8.  Lee Washington TATE was born on 12 Jun 1871 and died on 8 Jun 1942.
    Lee married Elizabeth RASH on 2 Oct 1892.  (Elizabeth RASH was
    born on 13 Nov 1869 in Stuttgart, Germany, died on 25 Sep 1925 in
    Imboden, Lawrence, AR and was buried in Hope Cem, Imboden, Lawrence,
    AR.)

    They had the following children:

    + 15 M     i. James Miller TATE was born on 19 Jul 1893 in Lawrence
                  Co, AR, died on 12 Mar 1958 in Black Rock, Lawrence,
                  AR and was buried in Black Rock Cem, Lawrence, AR
      16 U    ii. Baby TATE was born on 3 Dec 1895, died in 1896 in
                  Imboden, Lawrence, AR and was buried in Hope Cem,
                  Imboden, Lawrence, AR.
    + 17 M   iii. French Delbert TATE was born on 20 Feb 1896
      18 F    iv. Mary Oberia TATE was born on 5 May 1899.
    + 19 M     v. Rufus Clifton TATE was born on 10 Jun 1902, died in
                  1956 in Black Rock, Lawrence, AR and was buried in
                  Black Rock Cem, Lawrence, AR
      20 F    vi. Clara Bessie TATE was born on 21 Nov 1904.
      21 M   vii. John D. TATE was born on 28 Apr 1912.

Third Generation (Grandchildren)

10.  Lillie Lee TATE.  Lillie married Dan COLE.

     They had at least the following children:

       24 M   iii. Tony COLE, he is living in Gary, IN (2000).

11.  Jess TATE, born 18 Dec 1907, died 9 Mar 1995.  Jess married Mrytle 
     BERRY.  Jess also married Lora JACKSON.

12.  William Wayne TATE, b, January 22, 1900, died Oct 1966.  William 
     married Ester BERRY.  Ester is living in Walnut Ridge, Arkansas.

13.  Minnie TATE was born about 1895.  Tate, Minnie (18) m. Barnhill,
     A.A.(21) 9/28/1913 Bk D, pg 068, Lawrence County Marriages.  Minnie
     married A. A. BARNHILL on 28 Sep 1913 in Lawrence Co, AR.

15.  James Miller TATE was born on 19 Jul 1893 in Lawrence Co, AR, died
     on 12 Mar 1958 in Black Rock, Lawrence, AR and was buried in Black
     Rock Cem, Lawrence, AR.  James married Virginia Irene SMITH on 14
     Jan 1917.  (Virginia Irene SMITH was born on 20 Dec 1897, died on
     21 Jun 1949 in AR and was buried in Black Rock Cem, Lawrence, AR.)

     They had the following children:

       25 M     i. Jewel M. TATE was born on 13 Nov 1917.
     + 26 M    ii. Chester H. TATE was born on 28 Aug 1919 in Lawrence
                   Co, AR, died on 6 Dec 1955 in Black Rock, Lawrence,

                   1983

17.  French Delbert TATE was born on 20 Feb 1896.  French married Mary
     Emmaline WEIR on 21 Dec 1919 in Lawrence Co, AR.  (Mary Emmaline
     WEIR was born in 1897.)

19.  Rufus Clifton TATE was born on 10 Jun 1902, died in 1956 in Black
     Rock, Lawrence, AR and was buried in Black Rock Cem, Lawrence, AR.
     Another name for Rufus was Tuff TATE.  Rufus married Cora Alice
     __________.  (Cora Alice __________ was born on 11 May 1900, died
     on 10 Oct 1983 in Lawrence Co, AR and was buried in Black Rock Cem,
     Lawrence, AR.)

Fourth Generation (Great Grandchildren)

22.  Jessie Mae COLE , died in CA.  Jessie married Thomas Marshal
     HIBBARD.

     They had the following children:

26.  Chester H. TATE was born on 28 Aug 1919 in Lawrence Co, AR, died
     on 6 Dec 1955 in Black Rock, Lawrence, AR and was buried in
     Black Rock Cem, Lawrence, AR.  Chester married Fern OLDHAM.

27.  Edith TATE was born on 3 Oct 1920 and died on 22 May 1983.  Edith
     married Mr. WILTORD.

28.  Mildred TATE.  She married Mr. FREEMAN.  (Living)

30.  Carolyn M. TATE, she married Mr. PROPST.  Living in Black Rock, AR.
